A uncommon Rolex Daytona 6263 Sigma Big Red
3 min read
La Daytona Cosmograph reference 6263 is today one of the most sought-after Daytonas. The fragility of its Bakelite bezel makes this model rarer (in its original version...) than references with steel bezels (reference 6265).
Indeed, it is quite rare today to find a Bakelite bezel in perfect, unscratched condition, or even unchipped. Produced from 1971 to 1987, this watch has a rich history, and during its 16 years of production, the changes made to some models have created unique collectibles.
Among the most sought-after models, we find, of course, the 6263 with an exotic "Paul Newman" dial, not to mention those equipped with the early MK0 pushers... Then there are the "big red" dials, white or black, some of which are harder to find than others, like the big red "Sigma" dial. These are the early "transitional" big red dials.
Both... This is actually the first big red produced by the brand that still has the "sigma" marking at the bottom of the dial. Don’t ask us for precise details on the exact production period of these watches; it would be wiser, perhaps even humbler, to suggest that these dials were produced until late 70's.
This is the watch we are presenting to you today, with a case in very good condition, a caliber 727 in perfect working order, original MK1 pushers, an MK2 Bakelite bezel graduated "50-200 units per hour" without scratches, and... a transitional Sigma Big Red dial. "The best of both worlds."
A collectible piece that we are very pleased to make available to enthusiasts in search of exceptional watches.
